Murray Beats Gasquet in Nail Biting Finish

Andy Murray, much to the delight of his home crowd at Centre Court, beat Richard Gasquet 5-7 3-6 7-6 6-2 6-4 in what must have been the biggest come back so far in the Wimbledon 2008 Championships.

Andy Murray seemed to be left for dead at the start of the third set, but some how was able to fight his way through for a spot in the Wimbledon 2008 Quarterfinals. Britain’s number one was 2 sets down and losing the third set 5-4 when he managed pull himself back into the game and win the set 7-5.

Murray, ranked 12th in the world, raced through the fourth set so fast, the Frenchman didnt know what hit him. At the beginnnig of the fifth set, the crowd were on their feet screaming and shouting for the success of Murray.

“That’s the best moment I’ve ever had on a tennis court. coming back from two sets to love was an amazing feeling,” a delighted Murray said.

Murray vs Gasquet Result from Wimbledon 2008

Andy Murray has been playing amazing at during this Wimbledon 2008 Championships. No one can complain about his performance- but the question in everones mind is, can he make it to the Wimbledon men’s Final?

While Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic and Novak Djokovic (just to name a few) have fallen out of the Wimbledon 2008 Draw, the number two seed Jankovic has made it to the fourth round of Wimbleodn 2008- but with a knee injury.

Will Jankovic’s next match be another shock to the Tennis Community?

Jankvovic fell at the start of her third round clash against Caroline Wozniacki, which she won 2-6 6-4 6-2, but hopes to be injury free buy the time her match starts on Monday at 12pm.

“What can I do? I don’t like being injured. It’s no fun going to treatments, going to have an MRI, sitting, sleeping in the physio room. I prefer to go out with my friends and just have a good time than being there all the time,” she told reporters.

“I had so many problems lately with my health. And this today it’s really unlucky because I was sliding and I made some really sudden move.”

When the Serb went 6-2 down to the young Dane during Saturday’s match, many were thinking, “This is the end of another Serb!” But they were wrong.

“I was thinking maybe I’m the next one,” she joked.

“It’s surprising. Somehow the top players, the top seeds, even though they’re not playing so well, somehow they get through these rounds and then they start playing better and better for the rest of the tournament,” Jankovic said.

“But the conditions are quite tough here. It’s very windy. You have a lot of bad bounces. You know, the players that they played against, they just go out on court and really played their best tennis.

“They swing freely and most of those balls go in, so when you’re not at your level you have a lot of trouble. So it’s very tough to get out of that and they couldn’t somehow.”

“I was really not happy with the way I was playing, especially the first set. I made so many unforced errors,” she said.

Nadal Impresses With Solid Win Over Kiefer

Rafael Nadal beat Nicolas Kiefer 7-6 6-2 6-3 on Saturday to increase his chances of a Wimbledon 2008 victory.

The mighty Spaniard, ranked second in the world, has made it to the fourth round of the Wimbledon 2008 Championships- a task that Djokovic, Davydenko and Roddick could not fulfill.

Nadal had to wait until 6pm GMT to play against the German on Centre Court, the latest start to a Centre Court Match, thus far in Wimbledon 2008.

The Spaniard and the German had a tight first set with Nadal narrowly coming out on top 7-6, but the second set took only 27 minutes to complete. In the third set, Nadal raced to a 5-0 lead, and while Kiefer started a comeback with 3 games, it was not enough to danger the World Number Two, who won the set 6-3.

“I am doing well, only losing one set. From now on, I know that I am going to have a tough time,” Nadal said after completing a highly satisfactory first week.
