Federer vs Gicquel-Wimbledon 2008’s Third Round
“Roger Federer- What a Player! What a name! What a victory!”. These will be the words from tennis legend Bjorn Borg, if the Swiss five time Wimbledon Champion wins this years final.
Federer is set to take on Frenchman Marc Gicquel at one pm on Wimbledon’s Centre Court for what should be a one sided third round clash on Day 5 of Wimbledon 2008. The pair have only played one another once before in a major competition, where the World Number One come out victorious, winning all 3 sets.
We have seen many a “underdog rise to the occasion” here at Wimbledon 2008, and who knows what this encounter may bring- After Djokovic and Roddick’s performance, the Top Seed will want to watch his steps very carefully.
The Frenchman, ranked 53 in the world, has achieved only one title in the past twelve months, compared to Federer’s six. Looking at more statistics,one will feel this should be a convincing win for the Swiss- Gicquel has lost 43% of his games in the past yearm while Federer has only lost 14.5%.
