Federer Outshines Ancic For Place in Semi’s

Roger Federer beat Mario Ancic of Croatia on Wimbledon’s Centre Court 6-1 7-5 6-4. The World number one last played Ancic back in 2002, and lost during Wimbledon’s Opening round. Ancic’s win would turn out to be Federer’s last match he’s ever lost on grass to date- a remarkable achievement.Wimbledon 2008.

With Federer’s win over Ancic today, he pushes his grasscourt win tally to 64- and it seems no one will ever stop the mighty Federer.

Federer showed the Croat that history was not going to repeat itself and within the opening set, built a 6-1 lead.

Ancic improved after a rain delay lasting more than 2 hours, playing a full part in some high quality rallies and the second set went with serve until the 11th game when the Croat netted a volley to give his opponent the break point.

Federer was in full flow in the third set and won the match in one hour and 40 minutes on his first match point, going into a semifinal against either Marat Safin or Feliciano Lopez.

The last time Ancic and Federer clashed was back in 2002 when the Croat beat Federer in the opening round of the Wimbledon Championships. The Swiss top seed has not lost a set throughout the whole of the Wimbledon Championships and if he carries on playing the way he did today, there will be no stopping him from winning his 6th consecutive Wimbledon title.
