Favourable Federer Fading Fast

Favourable Federer Fading Fast

Roger Federer’s confidence is fading fast. Let me rephrase that- The whole world’s confidence in Federer is fading fast. Why? What has happened to the five-time Wimbledon mens Champion over the past few months? Why is everyone doubting Roger Federer? What does Roger Federer think about all this?

Roger Federer is a great guy, a fabulous tennis player and a machine on the Wimbledon Centre Court- but why has his confidence fallen the past couple of months. When one stands in front of achieving a tremendous record people always doubt themselves. Federer can definitely win Wimbledon 2008. He has won Wimbledon the past five years in a row and he can definitely do it on the 6 July 2008.

The Question is- Do we want Federer to Win Wimbledon 2008?

Federer was embarrassed at the French Open. Wimbledon 2008 will be Federer’s turn to do the humiliating. Wimbledon is Federer’s jungle and Centre Court is his feeding ground- and if anyone can win Wimbledon 2008, the World number one can.

Bjorn Borg begs to differ:

“I pick Rafael Nadal as winner and my second choice is Novak Djokovic, my third is Roger,” Borg said on Thursday.

“For (Roger) to beat those guys at Wimbledon 2008, he needs to play much better than he did last summer. He knows he will have to play some unbelievable tennis to win again.”

Federer has only one 2 titles this year, having suffered from glandular fever in January 2008 at the Australian Open, the Swiss legend will craving his first Grand Slam of the year. One of the Two victories was at Halle, where Federer extended his unbeaten record on grass to 59 matches. Who’s doubting him to win Wimbledon 2008?

Seven-times Wimbledon Champion Pete Sampras belives in Roger Federer.

“He’s still the guy most likely to win the majors. He’s lost a couple but if anything that’ll do him some good, it’ll get him fired up,” said Sampras.

“As great as Roger is he’s going to have his losses and his bad days, it’s just human nature to go through some lulls.”

If Federer can find his way to holding the Wimbledon 2008 trophy, then he will become the 1st man in the modern Wimbledon era to win 6 successive Wimbledon titles in a row. Sampras holds the record for the most number of Grand Slam Titles, 14, and Federer is currently on 12.

Just seven days after winning at Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal became the first player in 35 years to win at Paris and at Queen’s. Nadal said, “I think I am playing well and if I continue to play like this, I am going to have chances to have a good result at Wimbledon,”

Ana Ivanovic is confident that she will win Wimbledon 2008. When former world number one Henin retired in May (and surprised everyone, because she is just 25 years old) many tennis fans were wondering if Ivanovic would be the rightful heir to the thrown- but after winning the French Open, Ivanovic proved she definately is.

But Wimbledon 2008 could change all that.

Ivanovic, from Serbia, won her first Grand Slam tournament with a victory at French Open and gainned experience that will be vital for her to win at Wimbledon.

“You just have to make sure you keep doing the right things on the court and play your matches and the rankings, they take care of themselves,” Ivanovic said when she beat Russia’s Dinara Safina at the French Open to win her first Grand Slam Title.

“I think I have a good chance (of winning Wimbledon 2008),” said Ivanovic, who lost to eventual champion Venus Williams in the semifinals last year. “I’ve been working really hard and this hard work gives results.”

Tennis Experts believe that Ana Ivanovic should make it to the Wimbledon 2008 quarterfinals with ease- but what happens after that, is no ones guess. She will be facing Serena Williams or Venus Williams. No easy task. Venus has won Wimbledon four times and Serena twice. While the Williams’ sisters gave dismal performances at Roland Garros, they will want to proof themselves once again.

Even if Ivanovic can beat a Williams sister, she is then seeded to face Russians Svetlana Kuznetsova or Maria Sharapova in the Wimbledon 2008 semifinals. Sharapova has a Wimbledon title under her belt and nothing would give her greater pleasure than to win her second Wimbledon title in Wimbledon 2008.

“My chances are just as good as everybody’s, it’s all about who takes their chances,” said Sharapova, who has chosen to stay away from the warm-up events before her Wimbledon tilt.

Wimbledon 2008 starts on Monday the 23 June. The Wimbledon Mens Final will be played on 6 June 2008 and the Wimbledon Ladies Final on the 5 June 2008. Leave us a comment on who you think will win? Rafael Nadal put an end to reigning champion Andy Roddick’s winning streak at the Queen’s ATP Tournament with a 7-5 6-4 victory. Nadal has placed himself in a great position ahead of the Wimbledon Championship, which begins the 23 July 2008. He will face either Novak Djokovic or David Nalbandian at the Queen’s Final on Sunday.

Nadal seems to have adjusted perfectly to the West London grass-court conditions and this experience will definately aid him with his Wimbledon 2008 mindset.

“It means a lot to play so well against the defending champion who has won so many games here,” Nadal said. “I felt he was the favourite because he is an amazing player on grass because of his serve. I’m really happy.”

Rafael Nadal managed to overcome Roddick’s quick paced serves, but it was Nadal’s amazing groundstrokes that was always going to make the diffirence.
