Murray Beats Santoro and Gives a “Thumbs Up”

Home favourite and Britain’s number one Andy Murray beat Santoro 6-3 6-4 7-6. The 21 year old Murray outplayed the 35 year old Frenchman in the hopes of becoming the first British Singles Men’s champion in over 70 years.

Between Murray and Santoro, they both managed to keep the crowd on their feet, as the game went well over the two hour mark. This was Santoro’s first match on Wimbledon’s Centre Court.

“It was as good as I was thinking before going on the court,” Santoro told reporters. “I was trying to enjoy every minute on the court. I was trying to enjoy the match. I think I did it from the first to the last point.”

Murray managed to break 3 times in the first set and twice in the second set, and one feels the Scotsman was not always in control of the game.

Santoro has heaps of experience- with 64 Grand Slam tournaments in his career and 13 Wimbledon tournaments in his pocket- he just could not beat Murray.

Murray will face Xavier Malisse in Wimbledon 2008′s second round.

“When he broke me back in the first set it was a little bit nervy for a couple of games,” Murray said of being pegged back early on by some magic touches from the Santoro racket.

“It’s first round of Wimbledon 2008. I mean, it’s fun to be out there, but I’m not wanting to just play fun points to keep everyone happy. I wanted to obviously just win the match as quickly as possible”… Read the rest of this entry »

Andy Murray  beat Jonathan EYSSERIC 6-2 1-6 4-6 6-0 6-2 winning his first-ever match Roland Garros (the french open)

Andy Murray is from Scotland, and has been suffering from a throat infection throughout this last week. Andy Murray almost choked in the 1st round of the French Open. He then beat Jonathan Eysseric 6-2 1-6 4-6 6-0 6-2.

Here’s what Murray said:

“I didn’t play particularly well and he made me do a lot of running which wasn’t the plan. Playing a young guy you’ve not seen takes a little bit of time to get used to.

“But I never felt I was going to lose the match. I was happy I came through.”

Murray did not play in the 2007 French Open due to a wrist injury and he lost in the first round in 2006 to Gael Monfils. Murray is now up against Argentina’s Jose Acasuso, who defeated Dominik Hrbaty 6-4 6-2 6-4.
