Wimbledon 2008 - Williams VS Radwanska - Day 8 QuaterFinals

The 19-year-old Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland must be really impressed with herself. Not only did knock out Svetlana Kuznetsova on Centre Court yesterday afternoon, but in doing so, she has secured her place in the Wimbledon 2008 quarter-finals for the first time in her career.

Radwanksa won the Wimbledon Championship junior title in 2005. Not only that, but she secured the Eastbourne title a few weeks back and looked really comfortable on the grass against the Russian world No 4. yesterday afternoon.

14th seeded Radwanska now has to face former Wimbledon Tennis champion Serena Williams. Williams knocked out sister Urszula in the second round. But riding high from today’s victory, the teenager cannot wait for the challenge, saying she has “nothing to lose”.

“I know Serena and I know how she’s playing. For sure I saw a bit of my sister’s match against Serena, so I know what I have to do. I just have to play aggressive and that’s it.”

Radwanska admits she will have to be on top form to beat the American Williams.

“She’s a very strong player and she can hit the ball very strong. Even in Berlin she was playing unbelievable against me. I was playing not that bad and I won just four games.” She added: “It is going to be a challenge for me…I will enjoy and try my best.”

Ivanovic VS Zheng result - Wimbledon 2008 Round 3 Day 5

World no 1 Ana Ivanovic has just been defeated by Zheng Jie from China in the Third Round on day 5 of The Wimbledon 2008 Championships. Zheng is ranked 133rd in the World and was chosen as a Wimbledon 2008 Wildcard. Zheng defeated Ivanovic 6-1, 6-4.

While Ivanovic may have beaten Dechy in Wimbledon’s round two, by surviving 2 match points, the Serb stood now where against Zheng.

Ivanovic could not handle her serve and allowed the ball to land everywhere on the court, except where she wanted it to land.

The top seed was no where to be found in the first set. Zheng managed to break away from Ivanovic at 1-1 to make the final score of the first set 6-1. What a white wash!

It was obvious that Ana Ivanovic was not just having a bad day against Dechy, and Zheng managed to expose all her weakness’ that where well hidden against the Frenchlady.

Ivanovic looked out of place on Court One and failed to capitalise on important moments throughout the match, giving Zheng many opportunities to expose the Serb.

It was a surprise,” Zheng said. “She has a big serve and a big forehand but I tried to go for her backhand.”

With Ivanovic and Sharapova out of Wimbledon 2008, who knows hat will happen?

Who is Jie Zheng and How Could She Beat Ivanovic?

Jie Zheng has taken down the mighty Ana Ivanovic! With a 6-1 6-4 victory over the world number one in Wimbledon 2008’s third round, many people are wondering, who Zheng is?

After beating Elena Baltacha 6-2, 7-5, Jie Zheng asked if she could face world number one Ivanovic on Wimbledon’s Centre Court. The last time Zheng, from China, played on Centre Court was against Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon 2004, where she got thrashed!

When Zheng, who is ranked 133rd in the world, was asked about why she wants to play on Wimbledon Centre Court she said,” It’s such a good court with a great atmosphere. I would love to play there again.”

Ivanovic and Zheng have met before in Montreal two years ago.

Before when I played Ana she wasn’t the number one, now she’s number one and French Open champion. It’s the first time I will have played her on grass.

“Of course I want to win the match but I know it will be very tough. She had two match points against her in the last round but her heart is very strong.

“It’s tough to be two match points down and comeback. That shows what a good player she is.

“She has a big serve and a big forehand. I just want to try my best and enjoy the match.”
