Rafael Nadal Wimbledon Results from myWimbledon2008
Rafael Nadal, current world number two, beat 17th seed Mikhail Youzhny 6-3 6-3 6-1 for a spot in Wimbledon 2008’s quarterfinals. Nadal battled through an early scare, when he required treatment to his left leg.
The Spaniard pocketed the first set 6-3 with ease and it was during the second set’s second game that Nadal slipped onto his calf. At first there was a sudden silence amoungst the crowd, but when he was done with treatment and walked back onto the field, everyone cheered and felt releaved.
“I got a fright when I felt pain in my knee, but the doctors have established that there is nothing to worry about.
“Everything is positive. I simply made a bad movement and my muscle hardened. I was scared at first but I lasted the whole match,” Nadal said.
It was an unpredictable match at the start, as Youzhny beat Nadal 6-0 6-1 in their previous encounter in January this year. Youzhny is ranked 17th in the world and Nadal leads their battle 7-4.
The match lasted two hours and ten minutes, with the second set lasting 49 minutes, and Nadal showed impressive form when he played close to the net. He won an unbelievable 21 points out of the 24 that opted from the net.
Rafael Nadal will take on Andy Murray on Wednesday at the Wimbledon 2008 Championship’s.
