Federer Pushes Hewitt Aside With Ease
Roger Federer Wimbledon Results from myWimbledon2008
Roger Federer beat Australian’s Lleyton Hewitt 7-6 6-2 6-4 on Monday to secure himself a place in Wimbledon 2008’s Quarterfinals.
It was a difficult match to predict before hand, but throughout the battle, it was evident that the World Number One was going to clinch it. The first set, however, was a close one.
Hewitt, the last man to win a Wimbledon title before Federer took over with five consecutive wins, kept the Swiss on his toes during the first set, but Federer managed to win the tiebreak 9-7, with an unbelievable ace that soared through Wimbledon’s Centre Court at 195kph.
This is Federer’s 63rd victory on grass… unbeaten!
“I served well, it was important (to do that) against Lleyton. But I’d also say Lleyton struggled a bit with his hip,” said Federer, who whipped out 21 aces during the 109 minute battle.
Hewitt agreed, “He served extremely well today. Any quarter chances that I did get, I didn’t have them for long,
“He hit every line out there with his serve today. That’s why he’s the best player going around, especially on this surface. Serve is so important. He hit the target every time.”
While Federer may have beaten Hewitt, the last man to win Wimbledon before him, he will next face Mario Ancic, the last man to have beaten him on grass (and at Wimbledon) back in 2002.
The Australian’s coach, Tony Roche, had coached Roger Federer a year ago and Hewitt was hoping Tony could help him against the World Number One, but Federer had changed his tactics with his coach it seems.
It seems Roger Federer is destined for great things as he has not lost a set in Wimbledon 2008 thus far, which is an excellent achievement!
The new list of the Men’s World Rankings will be published on Monday and Federer will be on the top of that list, irrespective if he wins Wimbledon 2008 or not-
Have you ever wondered how Federer made it to the top of his game?
It cant all be about physical attributes, it must in the mind too. You cant just walk out onto Cetre Court and say,
“Ok, well.. i hope my bodies going to play good tennis today”
No! Roger Federer’s mind has to be in the correct state to handle pressure!
See this interesting book I read on how to improve your tennis techniques, its very good and watch out! it works…
