Wimbleon 2008- Venus Williams beat Maria Martinez Sanchez 6-1 7-5 on Saturday for a spot in the last 16. Williams, from America, whipped up some lightning fast serves to quickly place the Spaniard under severe pressure.
Williams, who will be keen to win her fifth Wimbledon Championship’s, seemed to be in a hurry to join Serena, her sister, in the last 16.
The last time Venus WIlliams and Maria Martinez Snachez met, the Spaniard managed to take one set off the world number seven, but not this time.
Williams raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set, which only took 22 minutes, and things were not looking good for Martinez Sanchez. She managed to pull a game back, but by then it was too late and Venus sealed the set 6-1.
Williams encountered a stronger Martinez Sanchez in the second set, but the 28 year showed what she is made of, and ended the match with her fastest serve of the day, 204 kph…
