Murray Survives Haas, But Only to Face Mighty Gasquet
Wimbledon 2008 Andy Murray News brought to you by MyWimbledon2008
Andy Murray, Britain’s only sole survivor, beat German’s Tommy Haas on Saturday 6-4 6-7 6-3 6-2 to advance to the fourth round of Wimbledon 2008.
While Murray might have beaten Haas, he will have to pull up his socks if he wants to take down the mighty Richard Gasquet on Monday at the Wimbledon 2008 championships.
Haas was defeated by the 21 year old Murray in what turned out to be a rather one sided affair in the last two sets. Murray was in spectactular form during the first set, which he won 6-4, but Haas made an impressive come back to win the second set and silence the crowd, who were firm Murray supporters.
Things looked to be going downhill for Murray at the start of the third set, but Murray pulled out some lightning fast wins somewhere in the third set and before anyone knew it, the Scot was back in the lead.
“I want to concentrate on trying to win the tournament right now,” he told reporters. “There’s a big jump obviously from the position I’m in now to getting to the Wimbledon 2008 final.
“It’s still three matches away and I’m going to have to beat some really tough players if I want to do that. I’m not really thinking about reaching the quarters. I’m more interested in making it to the Wimbledon 2008 final.”
Fred Perry was the last brit to win a Wimbledon back in 1936.
