Jankovic Ignores Injury to Beat Wozniacki

Wimbledon 2008 action brought to you by MyWimbledon.

World Number Two, Jelena Jankovic beat Danish youngster Caroline Wozniacki 2-6 6-4 6-2 for a place in Wimbledon 2008’s fourth round.

The 17 year old Wozniacki won the first set 6-2 when she managed to capitalise on many errors made by Jankovic. The serb picked up a knee injury during the first set and things were not looking good for Jankovic.

Janovic ignored the injury during the second set, which she won, but before the start of the third set, seeked medical attention to her swollen knee.

When Jancovic lost the opening set, many believed she would be beaten by the “under dog” just as world number one, Ana Ivanovic and Russian beauty Maria Sharapova have been, this week.

Jelena Jancovic will be undergoing treatment before her next match against Tamarine Tanasugarn, from Thailand, and one hopes that she will be all bandaged up and ready to play, because this promises to be an exciting match!

“I hope for the best but you never know with injuries, it’s hot at the moment. When I cool down we’ll see how it reacts,” Jankovic told courtside reporters.

“I slipped at the start of the match. I started to have some pain and I was struggling at the end. Hopefully I will be fine for the next match. The physio said I have probably strained it.”

Its hard to believe the world number two, Jankovic has not made it to a final of any Grand Slam Tournament. WIth the the way she’s playing now, one feels that she has no choice but to make it to Wimbledon 2008 ladies final!
