Roddick Crashes out of Wimbledon 2008

Andy Roddick has been beaten by Janko Tipsarevic 6-7 7-5 6-4 7-6 on Thursday at Wimbledon 2008.

The Serb placed an end to Andy Roddick’s dream of a Wimbledon 2008 victory and created a new dream for Serbian fans after their Djokovic and Troicki fell out of the Wimbledon 2008 tournament on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Roddick managed to make the quarterfinals her at Wimbledon last year but could not get past the second round this year. The American pumped many aces down the court but Tipsarevic counter attacked with great effect and made the most of his break opportunities to win the match.

“I rise to the occasion when I play on big courts,” said Tipsarevic, who lost 10-8 to Roger Federer in a deciding fifth set after leading two sets to one in the last 32 at the Australian Open in January.

“I just looked at the statistics, it’s simple, today I won because I used my chances and he didn’t… he had a lot of break points and didn’t use them”, added the bearded and tattooed Tipsarevic.

“The good thing for me is that he didn’t make me play too much on these set and break points.”

This has been Andy Roddick’s weakest performance: having played at Wimbledon 8 times, this is his first encounter of not making the third round at a Wimbledon Championship.

“Any chance I got I choked it, it’s tough to deal with,” Roddick told a news conference.

“I could sit and dance around it all night… you guys saw it… it was what it was. I didn’t make anything happen… just played horrific shots on break points.”

Some say the American went into the match with too much confidence as he had beaten Tipsarevic in the first round at Wimbledon last year…
